Delightfully illustrated, Jerm! Love the explosion and love the social commentary.

  2. Anon says:

Iraq’s shadow, the West bombing Libya – good parallel.

Was bombing Libya the right thing to do? Barrack Obama thinks so: http://www.abc.net.a.....171707.htm

  3. Jafie says:

BOMB THE SHIT OUT OF LIBYA!! IT’S THE ONLY WAY THEY’LL LEARN!

  4. Brian says:

    Missiles are never peace keepers.

And it’s the UN thats bombing, not the US. misleading, jeremy. smh.

  5. Anon says:

Actually, Brian, the US is bombing Libya, as is Britain and other NATO allies.

  6. DeWaal says:

“Unless he is willing to step down, then there are still going to be potential threats towards the Libyan people and we will continue to support the efforts to protect the Libyan people,”

    - Obama

ie;, keep bombing Libya until he steps down.

Brian, the UN doesn’t attack anyone. Western forces (incl. America and Britain) and NATO have been bombing Libya.

  7. Grey says:

Actually Anon, Brian is technically correct. The United Nations Resolution 1973 is what the US, UK, French are acting on. The UN Security Council declared that a no-fly zone be created “using all necessary measures to protect civilians” which is what is being done. Current news is that Obama and Cameron are trying their damndest to NOT be the leaders in the attack and they are keen to let NATO command the dirty work.
The paralell with Iraq is also invalid as at that time the US UK and others formed a coalition and declared war on Iraq. There was no United Nations Security council backing to the move.
And by the way South Africa now has a temporary seat at the Security Council and voted for the resolution (other BRIC nations abstained). Our multi faced ANC were for it and through the ANCYL against it so as a nation we’ll always be on the right side.

and … I’m so please to have the moer it button back!

The cartoon is satirising the situation or potential situation. I see it as completely valid. It’s a warning that, if the allies don’t be careful, the same thing as what happened in Iraq will happen. Like it or not, the allies HAVE been bombing in spite of their public sugarcoated PR. Tornado GR4s are being used, which are British.

America has a history with wars and Obama is trying desperately to keep himself clean. Don’t believe the shit PR coming out the White House.

    Oil, baby, oil.

  9. Dipstick says:

@ grey when you’re in allegiance with those who bomb a country, you’ve declared war on that country, UN Resolution or not.

This cartoon is predicting what is to come. Mark my words.

  10. Jacoba says:

I agree Grey, for once Brian is quite correct and, it seems that USA is going to hand over the reigns sooner rather than later (Cameron doesn’t stand a chance since he was pushing for it as much as Sarkosy). It seems, though that a few more Arab countries want a finger in the pie even though the all-powerful Turkey says HAYIR.

  11. Jacoba says:

Whilst I am dead against war, I also believe it is incumbent on all of us to protect the innocent and the children at all costs.
If we sit about idly, watching how children (or other innocents) are mowed down we are equally guilty. Non interference in that case is merely a cop out and make us as guilty as the party doing the mowing down.

  12. Chris says:

    > it seems that USA is going to hand over the reigns sooner rather than later

Jacoba, do you really believe all the media spin?

  13. Ava says:

This cartoon may not be CURRENTLY accurate, but it could be accurate in the near FUTURE. Satirical cartoons often make predictions…

…which turn out to be true.

Let’s hope Jerm’s cartoon doesn’t prove to be true.

  14. slick says:

    anyway nevertheless it’s excellently drawn..go j !

  15. Anon says:

For those (Grey, Jacoba, Brian) who say that the US is not bombing Libya, I’ll leave you to interpret:

    > But the US is hosing down any ideas of putting troops on the ground and fending off suggestions it is already at war with Libya. In a briefing that stuck carefully to the official script, US Rear Admiral Gerard Hueber would not explain what the coalition would do next if Mr Gaddafi’s forces could not be beaten from air.

    > When asked whether or not the US was at war with Libya, US State Department spokesman Mark Toner also had trouble answering. “We are, uh, implementing UN Security Council resolution 1973. It is clearly a combat operation – a combat mission,” he said.

Like the SA government, the US will deny and spin to suit their agenda. They have a history of ignoring the UN. Libya also has oil.

“President Obama told a skeptical American public that he ordered military action in Libya”
