Jeb Corliss is a professional BASE jumper and skydiver. He has jumped off things like the Eiffel Tower, the Space Needle in Seattle, and even those really high Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
A few weeks ago, he jumped off Table Mountain. Unsuccessfully. On the way down, he clipped a ledge and lost control. Unbelievably, he survived.
According to his Facebook page,
“I was going for a black balloon that was basically laying on the rocks and was going to try and kick it with my foot. In order to do this I had to fly low and flat between boulders. My left foot clipped a boulder that dragged me into a flat ledge that I took at the waist at full speed. If I had not clipped that boulder I might have made it, I might have still impacted. It’s very hard to tell from the footage. Everything happens very fast. But when you go for a flight where inches are the difference between making it and not making it well impact is very possible. I knew this and took the risk and paid the price for pushing way to hard. I take full responsibility for my actions and am just happy I still have legs to do rehab on.”
Additionally, he is between a rock and a hard place with Cape Town’s authorities because they didn’t grant him permission to dress up like a flying squirrel and break his legs on our Natural Wonder Of The World.
Watch it all the way to the end. The hair, on your arms, will stand up.
Update
I forgot to mention that this video is the trailer to an upcoming documentary about the event.

He was aiming for a black balloon lying on the rocks… he must have bumped his head in an earlier incident.
What a beautiful place to do this. But is he mad in the head. I have sweaty palms and all I did was press play. I can see why the city is a bit miffed. Hasn’t CT hosted an Extreme event a number of times which included base jumping from the cable car. Plus the emergency services had to pick up his bits to take to the hospital. Very lucky he’s still alive.
