Well, Paul McMullen is a former deputy editor; not a current one. Nevertheless, watch how comedian Steve Coogan and former BBC big cheese absolutely pummel Paul, discussing the (embarrassing) folding of News Of The World.
South African journalism needs to learn from – and improve upon – the uncanny parallels with such British journalism. Very soon.

I agree with the sentiments expressed, right until the bit at the bottom of post.
What, they’re going to institute a media appeals tribunal because some sleepy sub-editor spelled Morné Steyn’s name wrong?
Also, more disconcertingly, you seem to think that the sort of thing that ends up on Noob24.com is comparable to the News of the World hacking into people’s voicemails?
As long as we’re criticising the press, let’s do a proper job of it. A start would be to differentiate between poor copy editing and breaking the law.

Yes. That is part of the motivation, along with sloppy fact-checking , biased journalism, and sensational reporting.

That’s easy to say after the fact. How does the average reader know that the law has been broken by a journalist? In the meantime, a biased piece of poorly sourced journalism is no different. Let’s not even dare to begin with science reporting.
If journalists don’t want to be criticised, then a start would be to, say, do their job properly.
one up for Steve on this one!!!
