Saw an interesting analysis of Obama’s State of the Union address comparing the number of times words were used going back to the Bush administration. (Either the Wall Street Journal or Washington Post) About the only one not repeated this year that had been in every address for 8 years was “Osama bin Laden”. Also there was a distinctly lower emphasis this year on the word “change”
Would be interesting to do a word count on Big Jake compared to Thabo. And to see what the ANC have achieved over the years.
I have a feeling we’ll be emphasising “History” this year because the “future” is just too hard.
I struggle to understand the national hype around this speech. It is JUST A SPEECH! It doesn’t mean a thing -it’s like writing a letter to Santa Clause…
My name is Jerm and my work has appeared in The Times, The Witness, The Star, Pretoria News, Sunday Times, Die Burger, Beeld, Rapport, Volksblad, City Press, The New Age, Dekat, Cosmopolitan, FHM, Playboy, as well as in newsletters, on magazine covers, in marketing campaigns and more, both online and in print.
Sounds like that every time….. but results…… hmmm, have not seen much being done.
Kris, so the promises sound promising?…
